Goodbye 2020!

It’s been one hell of a year and thank goodness it’s ending soon! But this New Year’s Eve is looking a lot different than others (not really if you’re a seasoned parent and usually stay at home).

Thanks to Covid, we’re all stuck at home this New Year’s Eve, which isn’t too common when you have kids. But that doesn’t mean you still can’t have an eventful and fun holiday at home with your kids because here are some ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve with kids!

Create Mocktails

Make the kids feel extra special by coming up with a mocktail that they can drink and pretend that they are at some fancy affair. Give it an important name and then drink it in your fanciest glassware (or buy plastic champagne flutes if you’re worried about your kid breaking them) and then toast to the new year! You can try out a sparkling champagne mocktail. All you need is 1 1/2 cups of apple juice, 1/4 cup frozen white grape juice concentrate, 2 1/4 cups club soda and 2 mint sprigs (optional). Mix it all up and enjoy! Oh, and get some actual champagne for yourself!

Countdown on Netflix

If you have Neflix, you can trick your kids into thinking it’s 2021 with their on-demand countdowns. Just search for it on the platform and characters from various kids shows will help them rink in the new year – only at 8 pm!

Decorate Your Home

Even if you’re not actually having a NYE party doesn’t mean you can’t decorate as if you are! Buy some balloons and streamers and then pretend that you’re having a family party at home for the New Year! Your kids will love the celebration – even if it’s just your immediate family.

Dress Up

Have everyone in the family dress up in their nicest clothes and have your own NYE part at home (see above). Put on some music and dance 2020 away.

Cook A Fancy Meal

If you’ve ever wanted to try and cook a fancy meal, here’s your chance! Enlist the help from the entire family and whip up a meal that will delight their taste buds.

Play Party Games

If your kids are missing their friends, play party games from afar! They’ll be able to reconnect with their friends thanks to socially-distanced party games you control with your phone on Jackbox.

Have A Virtual Movie Night

Have a virtual movie night with friends using the GroupWatch feature on Disney+. You can create goodie bags for all the crew and distribute them before the watch party for all to enjoy at the same time.

Have A Virtual Karaoke Party

Sing some of your favorite songs with friends by booking a virtual karaoke room.

There are many other ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve with kids and we’d love to hear of any that you have!
