To My Sons On National Sons Day

I never thought I’d be a boy mom. I was a girly girl and wanted a brood of girls just like mommy. Well, life had other plans and I ended up with two glorious boys (before I got my girl). Being a boy mom is definitely interesting (as any other boy mom can attest). I doesn’t matter if you have one boy or five, it’s a life filled with lots of farts, burps, bumps, bruises and love.

March 4th is National Sons Day and a day we get to celebrate being the parents to amazing little (and no so little) boys. I remember when I was first told I’d be having a boy in 2013. I was nervous and scared – only because I grew up in a family of girls and didn’t know what to do with a boy.

But all that changed when I held my oldest son for the first time. I was over the moon being a boy mom and was super exited to what life would hold. I knew the mother-son bond would be an extraordinary thing and I’m lucky enough to be a mom to two boys.

Of course, it also hasn’t been easy being a boy mom. Life is loud, rambunctious, messy, gross and aggressive at time, but their love is so genuine and pure. Being a boy mom is scary actually. It’s about feeling your heart leap out of your chest as they climb the highest park playground or try to jump from something super high. But their soft “I Love Yous” and hand holding help ease those scary moments.

Being a boy mom isn’t always easy, but it’s the most amazing feeling in the world. Being a boy mom means life is always filled with burps, mud, bugs, adventure, snuggles and so many kisses. It’s a life I wouldn’t change for anything in the world.

What’s your favorite part about being a boy mom!

Happy National Sons Day!
